One roll per turn. The die picks a piece type with a legal move.
Choose what your pawn becomes.
1. Choose your rules. Normal is standard chess. In Dice, roll before each turn to choose which piece type you can move.
2. Invite your friends. Create a room, then share its invite link or code. Normal, Dice, and Chaos need two players. Bughouse needs four; the first friend joins your team on the other board.
3. Make your move. Click or drag a piece to a highlighted square. Castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate, and draws follow standard chess rules.
Ratings: sign in and choose a rated Normal game against a friend or bot. Ratings use Glicko, including uncertainty and inactivity, in this site’s own player pool. New accounts start at 1200; a ? means the rating is provisional. Only completed rated games affect your rating. Bot ratings are difficulty estimates. Dice, Chaos, and Bughouse are always unrated.
Bots: six difficulty levels and five personalities in Normal, Dice, and Chaos. Choose White or Black. The server controls bot moves. Bughouse needs four friends.
Chaos: 75 abilities across Common, Rare, and Epic tiers. Choose one of two lasting piece upgrades at the start and every four full turns. Both players must choose before moving. Up to five upgrades per player; one upgrade per piece type. Kings keep normal movement. Pawns cannot return to their own back rank.
Bughouse: two boards, opposite-color teammates. Captured pieces go to your teammate’s reserve. Placing one uses a turn. Pawns cannot be placed on the first or eighth rank; captured promoted pieces return as pawns. These matches are untimed. A check that could be blocked by a reserve piece lets you wait for your teammate to capture one.
Checkmate or resignation ends the whole team match. Reactions are shared with everyone in the room.
Choose one upgrade. It lasts for the rest of this match.
Both players choose before play resumes.
